Baptism is the entrance into the life of the Church (Matthew 28:19). Believers should constantly recall the promises of the Gospel signified in Baptism, so that their faith will rest in God and his promises and not in themselves.
Baptism by water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is a powerful sign of the blessings of the Gospel. In and through baptism, God conveys a death to sin and a new birth to righteousness to those who receive these promises by faith.
