Dying to Breathe

The saying is not true.  "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."  No, not necessarily.  The difficulties that tempt us to despair do not necessarily make us stronger.  It is possible to deal with difficulties in such a way that we become less strong, less solid, and less real.  We become shallow because refusing to plunge with faith into the depths of whatever menacing sea confronts us, the assignment with which God has entrusted us, results in nothing more than a shallow life spent playing in a kiddy pool of our own addictions and lusts.
